Q&A with Tim Ewing from Turtle Wax Pro

by Matt Petrie |

Tim Ewing is the Executive Vice President of Transchem Group, who own Turtle Wax Pro. For more than 40 years, Transchem Group has been a family-owned-and-operated business in the car wash industry and has quickly grown into a global company.

How did you get into this industry and what's your favourite part of the job?

I joined the family business in 1997 to begin in-house manufacturing and formulating. Though I began in Operations, my favourite part of my role today is supporting sales and helping bring new business to fruition. Being a ‘people person’, I truly enjoy building relationships and developing long-term partnerships.

How many people are in the Transchem team?

The Transchem Group employs 75 people today and growing strong!

What's your favourite holiday spot and why?

My favourite holiday spot involves being in the Canadian wilderness. Backcountry canoe trips in Killarney Provincial Park are challenging and thus rewarding. There is something revitalizing about being alone with nature – I return to the business world with a fresh, enthusiastic mind.

Do you have any hidden talents?

Yes, I do! Music! In my spare time, I play the mandolin and guitar and have been in a couple of bands that have played regular gigs.

Favourite book you've read?

Hmmm, that’s a difficult question to answer as there are many……….

What do you do in your spare time?

Along with camping and music as noted above, I enjoy golfing, hiking, cooking and spending time with my amazing family!

What are some current industry trends that you see happening at the moment?

With what’s happening in our world today, I sense the need for our customers and distributors to feel secure with their suppliers. Building strong relationships and having clients feel like they are part of a family versus just being a customer is paramount.

In North America, the passion for car washing is becoming more and more evident. There appears to be a Tunnel Boom happening and with tunnels expanding their offerings and services, car washing is becoming more of an adventure rather than a chore!

What excites you about the future of the carwash industry?

I see a new, younger generation of car wash owners emerging with innovation at the forefront. Mobile payment, chemical monitoring, water reclaim etc. I believe the data and analytics that is available through these innovative pieces, along with digital marketing and social media, the car wash industry is poised for new-found success.
